Yonge Loves Bikes

Move365 Connect Yonge is Here!

The Yonge Loves Bikes campaign started with the idea to bring protected bike lanes to Uptown, Midtown, and Downtown Yonge Street. The communities saw localized campaign work happening to bring a bold cycling network to Yonge; we pushed for REimagine Yonge in North York, advocated for streetscape designs and ActiveTO in Midtown, and supported a vision for Yonge TOmorrow that included bike lanes downtown.

Message from Executive Director Keagan Gartz

Following one year of parental leave, our Executive Director, Keagan Gartz, has just returned to the virtual office. After taking many family bike rides and coming together with her neighbourhood for physically distant concerts to get her through the year, she’s seeing our streets and our city in a whole new way.

Now that she’s back at Cycle Toronto, Keagan shared what she’s been reflecting on most from 2020:

Supporting YongeTOmorrow

The YongeTOmorrow project will be voted on by Toronto City Council later today and we expect it to pass. At time of posting, 15 Councillors have pledged their support for a redesign of Yonge Street downtown that puts people before cars.

Council Votes: Midtown Yonge bike lanes in 2021?

We asked you to write to City Council about bringing bike lanes to midtown Yonge Street and hundreds responded. Today, City Council voted 19 to 3 for City staff to examine transforming midtown Yonge from Bloor to north of Lawrence as was done for Destination Danforth, with bike lanes, patios, greenery, and parking by spring 2021.

Downtown Yonge - Change is Coming (Update)

Cycle Toronto has been advocating for bike lanes on Yonge Street for many years and now we have the opportunity to see a bold, car-free vision for downtown Yonge St. The City has been studying four potential options for the reconstruction of Yonge from Queen to College. We need your help to ensure cycling safety and well-designed shared space between people walking, rolling, and biking is a priority in the plans on Yonge to help fill large gaps in the City’s cycling network.

Why Transform Yonge is the only way forward

February 20, 2018

Dear Mayor Tory:

We are a coalition of individuals and organizations who care deeply about making Toronto’s streets safe, liveable, and vibrant for all. We are writing to express our support of the Transform Yonge option from Stage 1 of the REimagining Yonge project.

This letter explains our reasons for urging you to vote in favour of implementing the City staff-recommended Transform Yonge option, bringing a new vision for North York to life.
