Draft Bikeway Design Guide: our comments & concerns

What is the Draft Bikeway Design Guide?

Ever been angered by cars parking in the bike lane you're riding in? Ever noticed how many different types of bike lanes exist in Toronto? Ever wished that Toronto bike lanes felt safer? Good news: Toronto is developing a new standard for how it develops and delivers cycling infrastructure across the City. The Bikeway Design Guide is in draft form and we were invited to participate in several stakeholder consultations.

Official Plan Review: updates to transportation policies

The City of Toronto has completed a review of the policies in the Official Plan relating to transportation. On February 26, City Council debated and approved Official Plan Amendment 456, which introduces comprehensive policies related to integration with land use, complete streets, and active transportation. Cycle Toronto submitted comments twice throughout the consultation period, of which some comments were accepted and others were held for consideration during the next five year review. We also provided a statement to City Council supporting some of the proposed policy changes.

The second Danforth Study public event built upon information provided in the first public meeting that included a presentation and a short Q&A. This follow-up event was a free-form drop-in that allowed attendees to circulate and explore. Hundreds of local residents and businesses came by showing an appetite to discuss the future of Danforth related to density, business development, and transportation.

The Bloor West Bikeway Extension drop-in opened at 4PM on January 27th and people immediately began filing in. After registering, they entered a room with 39 different info panels, maps for feedback, and City Staff to answer questions. You can view the info panels here if you want a second look or can’t make it out to either meeting.
