Move365 | Connect Thorncliffe Park & Flemingdon Park
Mission & Vision
Imagine being able to ride bikes with your entire family on any street in your neighbourhood without any fear. Imagine being able to ride a bike to the subway or new LRT on Eglinton. With protected bike lanes it would be a fun, easy, and healthy experience getting to school, the grocery store, or your favourite dinner spot.
Calling for protected bike lanes to connect Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park is about more than transportation — our streets have the power to connect communities, improve our mental and physical health, provide space for children to play, and allow businesses to thrive.
Cycle Toronto is advocating for reimagining our streets to their full potential and making them work better for everyone. While people will still be able to drive, other options, like biking, will be a lot more appealing with safe spaces on the road. This is a conversation about safe, healthy, and sustainable mobility options for people across our entire city.
We pledge to support this vision through our Move365 framework. Join the pledge with us by signing your name below.

Context
Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park are two intertwined communities connected by a single road: Overlea Boulevard. Overlea was proposed as an ActiveTO bike lane route in 2020 which would have made it much easier for people to access businesses, schools, and cultural centres on either side of the Don Valley.
Both communities are designated Neighbourhood Improvement Areas, meaning that they have been identified as needing assistance to improve well-being across a wide variety of areas — including access to transportation. There has been strong community support for improvements to the infrastructure in the area, particularly among students organizing around the Overlea Bridge.

What’s next?
Thorncliffe Park and Flemingdon Park need to be connected with protected bike lanes, not just to each other, but to the rest of the city. This first step is redesigning Overlea so that people of all ages and abilities can feel comfortable riding their bikes between the two neighbourhoods.
The next step, as a plan for a subway line is taking shape, is to connect the neighbourhoods to Danforth Avenue in the south and Eglinton Avenue in the north. However, the Ontario subway line won’t be complete for a decade; people need to get moving now.
