Sheppard Avenue: Toronto's next best bikeway?

We launched the Connect Sheppard campaign in June to advocate for the beginning of a network of connected, protected bike lanes on major roads in North York. Now is the first chance to move this project forward. The City is proposing big improvements for Sheppard Avenue from just east of Yonge Street to Leslie Street as well as Willowdale Avenue.

The preliminary designs show potential for Sheppard to become one of the best bikeways in Toronto with wide, fully-separated bike lanes and many protected intersections.

Sheppard Avenue

  • Raised bike lane separated by concrete curb
  • Protected intersections (concrete separation continues into intersection)
  • Widening and connecting sidewalks
  • Green infrastructure to improve tree conditions and manage stormwater runoff

Willowdale Avenue

  • Extending the existing protected bike lanes south to Sheppard

The City needs to know you and your neighbours support healthy, affordable, environmentally friendly transportation options for people of all ages and abilities.

We know that people opposed to making Sheppard into a complete street that works for all road users will be at the City’s upcoming public meeting. This is why we need you to be there to share your support for safety improvements, like a physically protected bikeway, along Sheppard and Willowdale.

Date: Tuesday, December 7
Time: 6-8PM
