Action Alert: Write Public Works Now to Support the Bloor Pilot!
Over the next two weeks, we face two major tests and if we're successful we'll see pilot bike lanes on Bloor installed this summer. Public Works & Infrastructure Committee (PWIC) considers the Bloor pilot first at its next meeting on April 25 and if successful, it will move onto City Council on May 2.
PWIC is made up of 6 councillors: Jaye Robinson (Chair), Mary-Margaret McMahon (Vice-Chair), Stephen Holyday, Chin Lee, Ron Moeser and Anthony Perruzza.
As it stands, we have 3 YES votes (Councillors Lee, Perruzza and McMahon pictured above) and 3 UNDECIDED votes (Councillors Robinson, Holyday and Moeser pictured below).
We need you to write PWIC now telling our elected officials that you're supportive of the project.
Reasons to support the project continue to build. People want a safe and family-friendly cycling route across the city. Study after study has found that customers who arrive by bike spend more money than those who arrive by car. What’s more, bike lanes on Bloor St will help get the city moving.
Now more than ever, we need you to write members of PWIC to support the Bloor pilot
Members of Public Works & Infrastructure Committee:
To: "PWIC" <pwic@toronto.ca>, “Councillor Jaye Robinson” <councillor_robinson@toronto.ca>, “Councillor Mary-Margaret McMahon” <councillor_mcmahon@toronto.ca>, “Councillor Anthony Perruzza” <councillor_perruzza@toronto.ca>, “Councillor Ron Moeser” <councillor_moeser@toronto.ca>, “Councillor Chin Lee” <councillor_lee@toronto.ca>, “Councillor Stephen Holyday” <councillor_holyday@toronto.ca>
Remember to cc info@cycleto.ca and Mayor John Tory <mayor_tory@toronto.ca>. Include PW12.1 in your subject line.
Creativity matters. Include your personal story. And if you drive a car on Bloor St and still support the bike lanes, include that too! Consider including your mailing address; it carries more weight. Please write by Friday April 22 at 4:30 pm.
Interested in making a deputation at Public Works to voice your support?
Do you want to tell your story to the committee itself? Sign up to make a deputation by writing the clerk at pwic@toronto.ca with PW12.1 in the subject line and cc info@cycleto.ca. The meeting begins promptly at 9:30am on Monday April 25th in Committee Room 2. Read Women in Toronto Politics' 4-Step Guide to Deputations at Toronto City Hall for more. And if you don't want to speak, please consider showing up to sit in the audience with your bike helmet to show support!
Support our work by making a donation to drive our campaign to bring bike lanes to Bloor St further!
PWIC is our next test. We hope we can count on you to voice your support.
