The Past, Present, and Future: Effective Advocacy
We’ve built tremendous momentum for the cycling movement in Toronto, with more ‘wins’ than ever before. Like you, we know that cycling is part of the solution to critical issues facing our city. On December 8th, we’re coming together to celebrate what we’ve achieved over the last term of council and look at what needs to be done over the next term to make Toronto a safer cycling city for all.
We are thrilled to announce that former Ward 11 - University-Rosedale Councillor, environmental and bike champion Mike Layton will be our guest speaker. He will present case studies and share impactful strategies and insights from his tenure as a city councillor from 2010 until very recently. He will also share some amusing anecdotes about his time in public office while offering best practices on how to engage positively with elected officials, city staff and other advocates to affect meaningful change.

Cost: Free for Cycle Toronto members, $30 for non-members (includes a Cycle Toronto membership!)

6:30-6:45pm: Looking to the past to plan for the future. Toronto will provide a summary of advocacy work over the last 4 years, and outline our goals for the next City Council term.
6:45-7:15pm: Guest Speaker Mike Layton will share insights on effecting positive, sustainable, and equitable development, and working with civic leaders to advance progressive change that includes building bike lanes.
7:15-7:30pm: Q&A
7:45-9:00pm: Post event social at a nearby pub!
As a community of engaged residents who seek to make Toronto a healthy, safe and vibrant city for all by making cycling a viable option for Torontonians across the city, we hope you can join us. A post forum social will follow for those that are able to attend and continue the conversation over a beverage.
